A D&D One Shot Inspired by The Shiver Tree

Happy 2025, all! It’s been a minute, what with my first book getting published and then heading off to the UK for a wee bit of research for my next book (much more on that later), but I’m excited to get back in the swing of things and hopefully bring more fun content to you here and on social media!

To kick things off, I am very pleased to announce that I have written a D&D 5e guided one shot inspired by my novel,The Shiver Tree. What a project that was, and it would not have happened if it weren’t for my amazing husband, a master DM, who not only sorted out the technical details like encounters and stat blocks but also drew all the maps and things. What a legend. Cannot thank him enough for all the work he put into that and for keeping me from a mental meltdown trying to figure out all the pieces—I have never been behind the screen.

So, what’s the one shot? Well, the adventure takes place shortly before the events at the start of The Shiver Tree. Players will have a chance to peek behind the curtain of what spurs our heroine on her adventure and, as an added bonus, will see their quest tie in to events in book two, should all go to plan. They’ll get to meet a character from the books, engage with the world, and dip their toe into a little lore while trying to save the day. The adventure should be light enough for new players but, I hope, complex enough to engage longtime players as well.

Best of all, the adventure is free! You can download it here. Haven’t read The Shiver Tree yet? Not to worry. Familiarity with the story isn’t necessary to enjoy the game, but I hope it inspires you to give the book a read. Though not all D&D peoples and classes exist in the world of The Shiver Tree, feel free to create any character you like. If you want to stay true to the world, choose from the following:

Species:

  • Elf

  • Half-elf

  • Human

  • Gnome

  • Half-Orc

  • Dwarf

Class:

  • Druid

  • Sorcerer

  • Paladin

  • Cleric

  • Ranger

  • Rogue

  • Barbarian

  • Fighter

  • Bard

  • Monk

May the dice roll in your favor!
